Freelance Watch Technician

Montoya Watch Service Center - May 2005 - Present 16 years 2 months (Greater Los Angeles Area)

  • Built an independently owned watch repair business from the ground up with over $250K in equipment and parts.

  • Provided complete watch repair/overhaul, including balance staff repair, timing control, watch cleaning and maintenance, and case polishing with a specialty in Rolex, Tudor, ETA models, Omega, Oris, Seiko and Citizen models for various clients from independent buyers and collectors, to organization members, including the NAWCC and the AWCI.

Watch Repair Technician

Wanna Buy A Watch - Jul 2006 - Present 15 years (West Hollywood, CA)

  • Repaired and inspected 40 watches per month worth up to $150K, ordered parts, conducted water Resistant Test , and reduced watch returns from 500 per year to 100 for a jewelry store on a team of six.

  • Oversaw all aspects of watch repairs across 38 makes and models, which included disassembling, inspecting, washing and re-oiling ,over a 100 components, repairing hairsprings, inspecting timing, and finally reassembling.

  • Conducted maintenance and sizing for bracelets, disassembled and polished cases, replaced crystals and crowns, inspected quartz watches, repaired luminous hands, and regulated timing in dysfunctional watches.

  • Trained one salesperson on removing, installing, and repairing bracelets, changing batteries, polishing crystals, and procedures for assessing watch damages.

  • Conducted water resistant tests using specialized tools Witschi Proof-master S, and Roxer water tool ,utilized polishing Machine, ultrasonic Cleaner, and steamer machines to polish and clean watch cases.

Timing Analyst, Repair Technician

Rolex Watch Service Center - Aug 1999 - Oct 2005 6 years 3 months (Beverly Hills, California ,USA)

  • Trained in Rolex procedures and workflows, managed assembly and timing staff, repaired high-caliber watch products worth up to $250K, and oversaw the timing process for different Rolex movements.

  • Created and implemented a new system for dynamic poising using a mathematical diagram, which reduced errors and increased production speed by 20 minutes.

  • Managed 11 assembly staff, assigned tasks, reviewed work, and implemented corrective actions for errors when necessary.

  • Inspected and repaired movements, staffs, and timing on watches worth $5K-$150K. Checked rates, beats, and amplitudes for movements, and sent replaced balance staffs to the sequential team.

  • Attended weekly meetings with the Sequential Timing Committee to identify solutions to timing issues and determine methods for increasing productivity.

  • Managed a $100K inventory of replaceable parts for repairs.

  • Inspected and repaired 30+ Citizen and Seiko watches per month valued at an average of $100-$250, checked timing, casing, oiling, and basic lathe work, and provided customer service on a team of three for an independently owned jewelry store.

  • As head watchmaker, I oversaw a team of two watchmakers and provided training in basic practices, watch case cleaning, customer service, battery replacing, and watch disassembling.

  • Developed a new methodology for the processing of inspections, testing, and repairs, which improved turnaround time by 50% and reduced instances of customers returning for follow-up.

  • Conducted sales of repair services and secured 800+ clients from all over the country.
